The Institute for Agricultural Economics (The Hague) is the leading institute in the Netherlands for social and economic research in agriculture and rural areas. Nationally and internationally, LEI focuses on the increasing integration of agriculture and agribusiness with the social environment, concentrating on issues such as competition, agri-food supply chains, environmental planning and protection, natural resources. There is a long tradition of quantitative research on international trade, including NTMs.

There is a long tradition of quantitative research on international trade, including NTMs. LEI draws on knowledge from a broad spectrum of disciplines and utilises a range of analytical methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis or combinations. LEI has a strong expertise in both economic modelling and more conceptual work, providing well-accessible output with policy relevance. The software specialists hosted in the department ensure that the information base for analytical work is of consistent quality and well-accessible.

Relevant research experience in EC projects as coordinator or WP leader

  • Cross Compliance Assessment Tool (CCAT) under FP6 (2007-2010);
  • COMPETITIVENESS OF THE EU FOOD INDUSTRY, DG Enterprise (2006-07)
  • TAPSIM on Indian agricultural trade policies under FP7 (2008-2010);
  • METABASE project on the use of GSE (GAMS Simulation Environment) as a generic user interface between agricultural economics data and models (for the EU's JRC).
