Laval Univeristy (ULaval)

Laval University is one of Canada's leading universities. It was the very first institution in North America to offer higher education in French. Laval is ranked in the top ten Canadian universities in research. The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences hosts five departments, 20 research centres and one research institute. More than 2000 students pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in agriculture and food sciences each year.

All researchers in the proposed project are professors in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Laval University and are affiliated with the Centre for Research in the Economics of Agri-food (CREA). CREA is the leading Canadian research centre in agricultural economics. The research program of CREA is oriented towards three main themes: 1) international trade; 2) industrial organization; and 3) agricultural production. CREA’s personnel consists of eight senior researchers, two associate members, three post-doctoral fellows and more than twenty-five graduate students. CREA’s research is disseminated through academic journals and through other outlets to reach out policymakers, agricultural producers and industry stakeholders. CREA also conducts interdisciplinary research on the impacts of trade policies through its partnership with the Institute for International Studies at Laval University. CREA’s expertise and resources are thus well-suited to the project topic which deals with agricultural non-tariff barriers and trade.
